You will fall in love with Bichon at first sight because they look like a stuffed toy, all curly and cuddly, with a distinctive spring in their step. They are the product of cross-breeding spaniels with poodles as early as in the 15th century. Playful and cheerful, intelligent and obedient, they occasionally have the need to assert dominance in an attempt to prove themselves to their owner, but with proper training and dedication from their owner, they become the most obedient dogs.
If neglected, they can be quite destructive, followed by bouts of loud barking. They are happiest when they spend time with their owner and other members of the household and when they accompany them everywhere. They also get along well with children and other pets and are affectionate and cheerful toward the person that makes them happy and takes care of them.
It has been proved that people recovering from depression and other mental illnesses respond favourably to bichons because these pups can be very caring, loyal and gentle when happy.
Their long and curly, snow-white coat needs to be brushed regularly to prevent matting and skin disorders.
This small breed weighs 5-10 kg and has an average life expectancy of up to 15 years.
